Allison sends a reminder about Georgia’s Tax Free Holiday
BLAIRSVILLE (July 30, 2009) – State Representative Stephen Allison (R-Blairsville) is reminding all Georgians to take advantage of the Back-to-School Tax Free Holiday weekend.
“At a time when our district is struggling through this tough economy, I wanted to take a moment to remind all my constituents to take advantage of the Tax Free Holiday this weekend.” Allison further remarked that “Even in a time of budget shortfalls, it is imperative that we help the families in Georgia prepare for the coming school year by providing a little tax relief as they begin their back to school shopping .”
The Back-to-School Tax Free Holiday will begin this Thursday, July 30 and it will run through Sunday, August 2. While this holiday is operational, Georgians will not be required to pay state or local sales taxes when purchasing clothing, school supplies and computers.
The tax exemption applies to most articles of clothing and footwear, the single purchase of a personal computer worth $1,500 or less and related computer accessories, and the purchase of most general school supplies. Many retailers are operating with extended hours for customer convenience during this time.
For more information on items that are tax exempt, go to the Georgia Department of Revenue’s web site at https://etax.dor.ga.gov/salestax/holiday/2009/index.aspx.
